Six Candidates Remain To Head Dallas Force

Since paring a list of about 70 candidates for Dallas Police Chief to six by mid-April, City Manager Ted Benavides indicates that he will not narrow the list further before making the final selection, says the Dallas Morning News.

Mayor Laura Miller offered a rare compliment to Benavides, whose removal has long been her. “Mr. Benavides has been very thoughtful and very thorough,” she said. “And I’m very confident he’s going to pick the right chief.”

Still in the running are Arlington Deputy City Manager David Kunkle, the only candidate remaining from North Texas; Louie Caudell, former Little Rock, Ark., police chief; Louis Cobarruviaz, former chief in San Jose, Calif.; Chief Bernard Melekian of Pasadena, Calif.; Assistant Chief Kevin Robinson of Phoenix; and Chief Norman Williams of Wichita, Kan.
