Chicago police arrested 1,717 people–almost a third of them for drug offenses–during a 10-day crusade to rid three patrol districts of drugs and crime, says the Chicago Tribune. During Operation Spring Cleaning, which began April 8 Sunday, police impounded 217 vehicles, seized 69 weapons, and wrote 1,278 tickets. Police next will target drug dealers on the South Side, said James Maurer, the Police Department’s chief of patrol. “We’re going to put them out of business,” Maurer vowed.
