Two malls, a car dealership and five apartment complexes topped the list for the most car thefts reported to Houston police for the last six months, the Chronicle reports.
“It doesn’t take a genius to figure out where those hot spots are going to be,” said Police Lt. Victor Rodriguez. “It’s primarily the malls, movie theaters and particular apartment complexes that seem to be the most consistent.”
More than 20,000 car thefts are reported to Houston cops each year. From Oct. 1 to March 31, 31 people reported cars stolen at Northline Mall and 19 at Sharpstown Mall. A car dealership reported 29 thefts. Three apartment complexes reported 17 thefts each, while two others reported 15 each.
Sharpstown Mall management is installing video cameras in its parking lot, the Chronicle reports.
