University of Wisconsin student Audrey Seiler was charged with obstruction yesterday for lying to police about her supposed abduction. The Wisconsin State Journal says police quoted friends of Seiler, 20, as saying that she was troubled by her high school sweetheart’s waning attention in the weeks preceding her disappearance. The charges apparently are based on Seiler’s lying after she was found Mar. 31. She had said that she was abucted by a “bad man” with a knife.
The Journal noted that the case “brought a national media horde to Madison.”
During Seiler’s interrogation after she was found, she reportedly broke down in tears and said, “It just got so out of hand. I did not mean for it to … everybody did so much for me.”
