Sniper Lee Boyd Malvo has been transferred to Virginia’s highest-security prison, where he will be the youngest inmate, reports the Washington Post. Malvo, 19, is serving two life terms without parole. Last week, he was transferred to Red Onion State Prison in Pound, Va., near the Kentucky border. Red Onion houses men with long or life sentences.
Malvo will have his own cell, as do nearly all of Red Onion’s 740 prisoners. A corrections spokesman said Malvo was placed there “for his protection, because of his notoriety. There aren’t very many people who don’t know who he is.” Malvo will have about an hour per day of recreation, and visitation and phone privileges.
