Two Texas sheriffs are free on personal recognizance bonds after corruption indictments. The Dallas Morning News says that Dallas County Sheriff Jim Bowles was accused of misusing more than $100,000 in campaign funds and Denton County Sheriff Weldon Lucas was charged of lying to a grand jury.
“This cloud has been hanging over us for months and months,” said Sgt. Stan Thedford, president of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Association. “Now that [Bowles has] been defeated in the primary, he needs to focus his attention on his trial and let this department move on.”
