Border Patrol agents say they fear President Bush’s recent “guest worker” proposal signals that America is going soft on illegal immigrants.
The Christian Science Monitor reported that agents in the San Diego area feel betrayed by Bush’s proposal, floated amid new pressure on the Border Patrol to step up efforts to catch illegals.
“The most difficult thing about being an agent now is that nothing we seem to do is supported,” says senior patrol agent Thane Gallagher. “America loves illegal immigrants but hates illegal immigration.”
