Prosecutors charging Scott Peterson in the death of his wife and unborn son say news coverage of the case is so widespread there is no point in moving the trial, reports the Associated Press. The defense wants the trial moved from Stanislaus Ca., because of a “lynch mob atmosphere.” Judge Al Girolami is to hear arguments today. He has suggested jurors could be chosen in a neighboring county and transported 30 miles each day.
Peterson, 31, could face the death penalty. The trial is scheduled Jan. 26, but would likely be postponed if there is a change in location.
Prosecutors blamed much of the publicity on “media grandstanding” by defense attorney Mark Geragos.
