Almanacs Cited By FBI As A Terrorist Tool

Terrorists may be using almanacs in planning attacks, the FBI is warning police around the nation. In a bulletin sent Christmas Eve to 18,000 law enforcement organizations, the FBI said terrorists may use almanacs “to assist with target selection and pre-operational planning,” the Associated Press reports. The bureau urged officers to look for people carrying almanacs, especially if the books are annotated in suspicious ways.

The FBI pointed out that use of almanacs may be “the product of legitimate recreational or commercial activities.” A World Almanac editor seemed dubious that his product was a sign of danger, noting that most information it contains that might be of interest to terrorists is “stuff that’s widely available on the Internet.”
