A 24-year-old inmate died in Los Angeles County’s Inmate Reception Center from injuries in an apparent beating, the Los Angeles Times says. The death occurred Tuesday, two days after a similar death at the Men’s Central Jail, where an inmate was beaten by two cellmates.
Two recent reports have criticized procedures at Los Angeles County jails. A special counsel to the county Board of Supervisors said sheriff’s deputies may be unable to control violent inmates because of inadequate training in the use of force. The review found that deputies frequently don’t receive training until after starting work.
