Anthony Cicchelli, prosecutor in Benzie County, Mich., was in no mood to talk to reporters Wednesday about two ongoing murder investigations. The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that Cicchelli posted a sign on the door to the reception area of his office threatening criminal charges against reporters. The sign says, “All Members of Media are Not welcome. Uninvited entry may constitute a criminal trespass. Don’t even knock.” Asked what law would allow a prosecutor to charge a member of the media for attempting to reach his receptionist in a public building, he said, “Look it up, there is a statute.”
The newspaper says it has been a busy two weeks for Cicchelli, who is handling two major murder cases. State and local officials also said Cicchelli is the subject of an investigation by the Michigan Attorney General. Benzie County Sheriff Bob Blank told the Record-Eagle that Cicchelli was accused of ticket-fixing after an investigation by the Frankfort Police Department.
