Two men picked up in a police chase in New Jersey are being investigated in the abduction of U.S. Senator Judd Gregg’s wife, the Newark Star-Ledger says. The men, whose names were not released, were stopped in an area of Carteret, N.J., known for drug trafficking. They drive a stolen Chevrolet Monte Carlo with Virginia plates.
Police in Fairfax County, Va., confirmed that the vehicle was used in the abduction of Kathleen Gregg, 52, wife of the New Hampshire Republican.
Mrs. Gregg was abducted at knifepoint Tuesday morning from the couple’s home in McLean, Va.
She was forced to withdraw $5,000 from a local bank and give it to one of the robbers, but she escaped unharmed.
