Prostitutes arrested in Miami will face a choice beginning today: jail or exile.
Under a new initiative, hookers arrested in four red-light zones will have the option of accepting six months’ probation, on the condition that they stay out of the prostitution districts. Violators will go to jail if they return.
Police say the program, in use in several other cities in Florida, is a response to years of complaints from business owners, who say hookers drive away customers and make it more difficult to improve their neighborhoods, according to the Miami Herald.
