Harold McCord Jr., who escaped a Tacoma courthouse with a realistic-looking cardboard and toilet paper gun Monday, was shot to death in Monroe, Wash., Tuesday after a tip led police to where he was hiding, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports.

The shootout injured one Monroe police officer, but his injuries were not considered life threatening. The shooting took place at an apartment complex about 60 miles north of Tacoma. McCord, 36, was headed toward life in prison without parole on a “three strikes” conviction for kidnapping in Washington State at the time he made his escape from the courthouse.
