Amid a corruption scandal over bail bonds, 22 separate bills designed to clean up the industry were filed this year in the Louisiana Legislature.
But with the legislative session about to end, only a handful have a chance to become law. The others have been rejected or placed in legislative limbo. According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, 18 proposed reforms were crushed under lobbying by bond companies.
