Harry Potter Stolen Despite Tight Security

Despite unusually tight security on J.K. Rowlings' latest installment in the wildly popular Harry Potter series, more than 7,000 copies of the new book were stolen from a northern England warehouse, authorities reported yesterday.

In the U.S., distributors have hired security guards and guard dogs to protect their books.

On Monday, news reporters with three separate security badges passed through metal detectors and had their bags searched at Amazon.com’s warehouse in Fernley, Nev., 30 miles east of Reno.

The book is set for release at 12:01 a.m. Saturday and bookstores across the country are planning parties surrounding the release.
