Police Can Exacerbate Domestic Violence, Article Asserts

More aggressive police response to domestic violence is not necessarily the cure for cases involving women of color, according to participants at a recent forum. They called for the development of community-based solutions and stronger legal protections.

While much of the movement against domestic violence has largely focused on a more vigorous response by police, some women of color are now saying that the police are too often part of the problem–that the response from cops and government agencies can exacerbate conflict, according to an article published online by Women’s E-News.
