NOW Says FBI Should Enter Tacoma Police Tragedy

The National Organization for Women says the FBI should investigate Tacoma, Washington’s handling of its late police chief and alleged civil rights violations by the Tacoma Police Department. NOW official Judie Fortier spoke to the City Council last night amid concern about local officials investigating their own law enforcers.

Dozens of other Tacoma residents expressed disgust at the state of the City of Destiny — several of them shouting, “You just don’t get it!” at council members. The meeting occurred 10 days after Brame shot his estranged wife, Crystal Brame, then killed himself. Crystal Brame died Saturday.

“We’re very concerned about people in blue protecting people in blue,” the Post-Intelligencer quoted local business owner Sherry Bockwinkel as saying. “What we need is true independence — an investigation with no ties to police.”
