Washington State’s legislature is moving toward making it illegal to film up women’s skirts. The Senate’s Majority Leader, Republican Jim West, moved the bill forward after being swamped with e-mail messages and phone calls after the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported that the bill was stalled. The voyeurism legislation was prompted by a state Supreme Court ruling last year saying that although “up skirt” photography was “disgusting and reprehensible,” filming up women’s skirts was not illegal. The bill, expected to be enacted, provides for penalties of three to 12 months in jail.
