For years, most public attention has been on the cancers and respiratory conditions that have afflicted 9/11 first responders. But new research shows high incidence of cognitive impairment, a leading risk factor for Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, in many of the rescuers who worked at the World Trade Center disaster.
