A metro Atlanta sheriff was arrested Wednesday for his role in a mysterious shooting that critically wounded a real estate agent inside a model home, reports AJC.com. Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill was charged with reckless conduct, a misdemeanor, and was released on bond in the shooting of Gwenevere McCord, 43. He has declined to talk with police about what happened Sunday night inside a Lawrenceville-area model home.
Authorities say Hill, 50, allegedly shot McCord, a sales agent who was working in the house. Hill and McCord were alone there when McCord was shot in the abdomen. Hill called 911 to report the shooting but refused to cooperate with officers. On Tuesday, he released a statement that called the shooting a “heartbreaking accident” and described McCord as “very dear to me.” McCord, hospitalized in critical condition, has been unable to tell investigators what happened. Hill has been sheriff since 2013. He also served a term from 2005 to 2008.
