Concern was growing over the actions of San Bernardino County, Ca., sheriff’s deputies who were captured on video by a television news helicopter beating a suspect after a pursuit yesterday, the Los Angeles Times reports. Sheriff John McMahon called the incident “disturbing” and ordered an investigation, and there were calls from the man’s family and the American Civil Liberties Union for more action from authorities. The ACLU Southern California chapter said that though it respected McMahon’s “prompt decision to investigate the disturbing actions of his deputies, we believe more is needed. Too often the department has failed to address questions … about use of force.”
