National and international media, along with 800 people in a jury pool, are descending on Stephenville, Tx., a city of 18,561 near Fort Worth, today, for the trial of a man accused of fatally shooting retired navy SEAL Chris Kyle, whose memoir was the basis of the film “American Sniper,” the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. Eddie Routh, 27, an Iraq war veteran, is accused of killing Kyle, 38, and Chad Littlefield, 35, on Feb. 2, 2013.
Erath County will spend $1 million on security for the trial in the “Cowboy Capital of the World.” , which will take place at a courthouse annex a block from the square. Kyle was reportedly helping Routh cope with post-traumatic stress disorder. They were at the shooting range when the incident occurred. Opening statements in the trial are expected next week.
