Ariel Castro, who was sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison for the abductions of Cleveland women Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight, is dead, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Castro was found hanging in his cell at 9:20 p.m. last night at a corrections reception center south of Columbus. He was housed in protective custody, which means he was in a cell by himself and rounds are required every 30 minutes. An investigation will be conducted with the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Castro was sentenced Aug. 1 to life plus 1,000 years after he pleaded guilty to the abductions and rapes of the three women.
