Construction crews yesterday razed the Cleveland house where Ariel Castro tortured Michelle Knight, Gina DeJesus, and Amanda Berry, reports the Cleveland Plain Dealer. City Councilman Brian Cummins said townhomes may be built on the site.
Officials already have more than $22,000 to put toward whatever fills the empty space. The cash was found in Castro’s home after Knight, DeJesus, and Berry were rescued May 6. Officials intended to put the money toward the demolition, but a company did the job for free. The money was offered as reparations to the victims, who declined. “They wanted to give it back to the neighborhood to help,” said Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy McGinty.
