The Des Moines Register published and then removed an interactive map examining how school resource officers are deployed in Iowa after people criticized it for seeming to show unprotected districts, reports Poynter.org. Fox News host Megyn Kelly said, “If I'm some psycho, I might wanna play my odds.” The map identified more than 100 public schools that have no security, said the Blaze.
Fox News said Register changed the map to show only districts with full-time security and then pulled that map, too. Register Editor Rick Green told fox that the map was an attempt to answer questions from parents about what police presence their school districts had. It “showed no schools, showed no addresses [and] it did not go into detail,” Green said. The Register and the (Westchester County, N.Y.) Journal News, which published and later unpublished a map of local gun-permit owners are owned by the same company, Gannett.
