Brooklyn DA Hynes Stars On CBS Reality Show While Facing Re-Election Fight

Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes is getting his own reality TV show, reports the New York Daily News. The longtime prosecutor will be one of the stars of “Brooklyn D.A.,” a six-part series that will begin airing on CBS May 21. The hour-long episodes will be broadcast as Hynes fights for his political life in a hotly contested Democratic primary against two opponents. CBS said the show follows “hard-charging prosecutors (with) larger-than-life personalities both inside the courtroom and out. They're eccentric and living right on the edge.” The show – and the potential free air time for Hynes – infuriated his two challengers, lawyers Kenneth Thompson and Abe George. “Charles Hynes doesn't want to be D.A. He just wants to play one on TV,” said George, a former Manhattan prosecutor. The show's executive producer, “48 Hours” honcho Susan Zirinsky, said the show won't be about politics – it'll be about “law and justice. We don't stop covering the White House during a Presidential race.”
