Norman Williams, a former California “three strikes” inmate, was able to vote this week for the first time after he won release. He cast his ballot for the successful Proposition 36, which will allow thousands of three-strikers will seek resentencings, reports WitnessLA. Williams had been sentenced to life for the third strike crime of stealing a floor jack out of a tow truck. He had earlier burglary and theft convictions.
Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley had looked for three-strikes cases for which a 25-to-life sentence didn’t fit, and found Williams. The Stanford Law School 3-strikes project agreed to represent him and won his release.
