A new guide published by the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) provides downloadable documents that break down each state's laws and practices for ex-prisoner rights restoration.
The NACDL's Restoration of Rights Project, which was prepared by former U.S. pardon attorney Margaret Colgate Love, features an interactive map that serves as a state-by-state guide to the collateral consequences of conviction. Topics covered include the process for obtaining a pardon, expungement and the restoration of civil rights.
In addition, the webpage offers a set of charts that provide side-by-side comparisons of policies and practices.
