More Than 15,000 Communities Expected to Take Part In National Night Out

Tonight is the 29th annual National Night Out, an event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, to promote cooperation between law enforcement and the community to fight crime. Organizers say more than 37 million people participated around the U.S. last year, including law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations, and local officials from 15,000 communities in every state.

Town Watch association director Matt Peskin says, “While the one night is certainly not an answer to crime, drugs and violence, National Night Out does represent the kind of spirit, energy and determination that is helping to make many neighborhoods safer places throughout the year.”
