FL Black Panther Group Offers Reward for Zimmerman “Capture”

Members of the New Black Panther Party are offering a $10,000 reward for the “capture” of George Zimmerman, reports the Orlando Sentinel. The bounty announcement came just moments after members of the group called for the mobilization of 5,000 black men to capture George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who shot Trayvon Martin, 17, last month. “We don’t hate anyone, we hate injustice,” said leader Mikhail Muhammad.

The group called for the arrest of George Zimmerman and threatened to find and detain him if police were not willing to do so. The group’s hope was to put pressure on authorities to arrest Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who shot the Miami teenager last month. Martin was killed Feb. 26 in a gated community while walking back to his father’s fiancee’s apartment in the neighborhood. Zimmerman spotted the unarmed teen and called Sanford Police Department’s non-emergency line to report a suspicious person. The teen was shot before officers could respond. Zimmerman told police he acted in self-defense when he shot Trayvon. He has not been charged with a crime.
