Ideologically oriented media organizations are mixing it up over coverage of calls for Attorney General Eric Holder’s resignation. The Talking Points Memo site reported that Holder yesterday told a reporter with the conservative site The Daily Caller that his organization was ginning up calls for Holder to quit over ATF’s botched Operation Fast and Furious. “You guys need to stop this,” Holder said. “There’s not an organic thing happening, you guys are behind this.”
The liberal-oriented site Media Matters says Holder was talking about Daily Caller reporter Matthew Boyle’s month-long quest to find relatively low-ranking Republican members of Congress interested in taking a free shot at the Obama administration by calling for Holder’s resignation. The rationale is that Holder know about the controversial tactics used in Fast and Furious. Media Matters says that since October 28, Boyle has written 23 articles referring to calls for Holder’s resignation, from a “single obscure member of Congress,” Republican presidential candidates, and Sarah Palin.
