NC Chief, Rochester Police Official Also Competing for KC Job

The Kansas City Star, which has profiled three internal candidates to replace outgoing Police Chief Jim Corwin, now have written about two finalists from outside the department. They are Tom Bergamine, 56, the police chief of Fayetteville, N.C., who joined that department in 1978 and rose through the ranks to become chief in 2007, and George Markert, 48, who heads the office of public integrity in Rochester, N.Y., spent his entire 26-year police career in that upstate New York city.

Most recently, Markert was executive deputy chief of police before being appointed this summer to oversee the city's public integrity office.
