Domestic Violence in Same Sex Couples

If abused by an intimate partner, lesbian mothers are vulnerable and reluctant to seek help because they fear loosing their children, found a new study, the first to examine help-seeking for intimate partner violence among lesbian or bisexual mothers. Researchers from the University of Illinois followed 24 women for the study, which appears in the January 2011 issue of Violence Against Women.

Lesbian mothers choose not to report abuse because they feared people in power would be prejudiced against them, researchers said.
