Virginia Trooper Matt Cochran Named Police Officer Of The Year

Virginia State Trooper Matt Cochran, 28, has been named Police Office of the Year by Parade magazine and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. Cochran was honored for rescuing a 72-year-old woman from a fire at an apartment complex for the elderly in Hillsville, Va.

The IACP will honor Cochran — and 20 other exceptional officers from across the U.S. — at its annual convention in Orlando this week. The fire victim, Emily Bowman, spent a week in a hospital recovering from smoke inhalation. “Without Trooper Cochran, I would have died in that fire,” she said.
