In the same courtroom where he was sent to jail 18 months ago for lying under oath at a trial, former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was sentenced to between 18 months and five years in prison yesterday for violating probation, in part, by lying under oath, reports the Detroit Free Press.
Judge David Groner told Kilpatrick, in part: “You were a public servant, and because of your status as a former high-ranking public official, we expected you to set an example. Yet, despite this, you continued to engage in obfuscation and obstruction. You continued to be defiant. And in your letter to this court, you have failed [ ] to sincerely accept responsibility for your actions.”
