No Terrorist Plot Seen In Pentagon Officers’ Shootings

A California man who opened fire on two police officers at an entrance to the Pentagon yesterday appears to have acted alone and was not connected to any terrorist plot, Pentagon police chief Richard Keevill said, according to the Washington Post. The shooter, John Patrick Bedell, 36, was dressed in a business suit and carried two 9-millimeter semi-automatic weapons and “many magazines” of ammunition.

The officers were superficially wounded; Bedell was killed in return fire. “At this time it appears to be a single individual that had issues,” Keevill said. He emphasized that law enforcement officials have found no link between Bedell and any terror group in the U.S. or overseas. Police still are trying to establish Bedell’s motive.
