Holder On Health-Care Fraud: It Exceeds Avatar’s Profits

The estimated $60 billion in public and private health-care spending lost to fraud each year is half the economy of Kansas and 33 times the amount of box office profits of Avatar, the highest-earning movie of all time, Attorney General Eric Holder told a health-care fraud summit at the National Institutes of Health, reports MainJustice.com.

Holder vowed to strengthen a Cabinet-level team devoted to the antifraud effort, as well as beef up anti-fraud strike forces around the country. He will ask Congress for more funding and legislation targeting fraud, and reach out to the private sector – an aim of yesterday’s summit. Holder and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius lead the Health Care Fraud Prevention and Enforcement Action Team (HEAT), which supports seven health-care fraud strike forces around the U.S.
