Dallas Starts National Search To Replace Chief Kunkle

For Dallas City Manager Mary Suhm, replacing Police Chief David Kunkle is the most important personnel choice yet of her tenure, reports the Dallas Morning News. Suhm said she had spoken to a headhunter already; Kunkle announced his retirement yesterday.

City Council member Tennell Atkins said First Assistant Police Chief David Brown should be named immediately to succeed Kunkle. Atkins said a nationwide search is a waste of money when someone of Brown’s caliber is available. Kunkle had planned to depart at the end of February, but Suhm asked him to stay on through April, while city officials fill his job.
