Nevada Troopers To Patrol In Decoy Tractor-Trailers

If you see a big rigs on Nevada highways, a state trooper may be riding shotgun and ready to nab motorists who cut off the tractor-trailers, says the Associated Press. The Nevada Highway Patrol is leasing three tractor-trailers and hiring professional drivers in a campaign aimed at reducing highway collisions involving trucks and cars.

The troopers inside the trucks note license plates of drivers who trail them too closely or cut them off, relaying that information to troopers in patrol cars, who will make the traffic stop. A one-day experiment in 2008 resulted in troopers’ issuing 83 citations across the state.
