In May, the Justice Department reported 2,147 new prosecutions referred by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) in the Department of Homeland Security, up 18.9 percent over the previous month, the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse reported today. The data suggest that at least through nearly the first five months of the Obama Administration, there has been no let up in the increase in criminal prosecutions as a result of ICE’s enforcement activities.
ICE is the largest investigative agency in DHS, which also includes the Border Patrol (BP), the Transportation and Security Administration (TSA), the Secret Service (SS), and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
