Obama Likely To Sign Bill Allowing Guns In Parks

To the frustration of many Democrats, it appears likely that President Obama this week will sign a law allowing visitors to national parks and refuges to carry loaded and concealed weapons, the New York Times reports. Added to a popular measure imposing new rules on credit card companies, Democrats who control Congress and the White House appear ready to allow it to survive rather than derail a consumer-friendly credit card measure that Obama is eager to sign as Congress quits for its Memorial Day recess.

“Timing is everything in politics,” said Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK), champion of the gun proposal. “I wish there could be more courage and leadership from our friends on the Hill,” said Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, saying he believed legislators were overestimating the gun lobby's political might.
