This center, operated by the nonprofit Institute for Intergovernmental Research, is administered and funded by the federal Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. The center says its purpose is to “assist policymakers, practitioners and researchers in their efforts to reduce youth gang involvement and crime by contributing information, resources, practical tools, and expertise towards the development and implementation of effective gang prevention, intervention and suppression strategies.” Staff at the center review gang literature, compile gang-related legislation, operate a listserv for professionals working with youth gangs and maintain a database of gang-related news stories.
