Expertise: The author of Immigrant America: A Portrait and Legacies: The Story of the Immigrant Second Generation, Rumbaut's research covers a broad swath in the field of immigration, including intergenerational differences in adaptation, bilingualism and language loss, ethnic identity, citizenship, infant health and mortality, educational achievement and aspirations. He was a co-author of a 2006 report on crime and incarceration among immigrants that concluded that foreign-born people were four times less likely to be incarcerated than native-born Americans.
