The foundation, a think tank that tries to connect research with real-world police work, mounted a major conference on local police enforcement of immigration laws in the summer of 2008. Entitled “The Role of Local Police: Striking a Balance Between Immigration Enforcement and Civil Liberties,” the conference included 200 law enforcement leaders, policy makers, scholars and community leaders in a broad discussion of the issue. Describing the premise of the gathering, the foundation said, “In the absence of a comprehensive national strategy, state and local governments are struggling to resolve the complex and difficult issues surrounding undocumented immigration.” The link connects to the conference homepage, which includes a list of resources and biographies of the speakers.
