The institute describes itself as “an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit think tank…dedicated to analysis of the movement of people worldwide.” It says it advocates rights-based immigration and refugee policies and that “immigrants become net contributors and create new social and economic assets.” The institute produces periodic reports, including a 2006 backgrounder that concluded that U.S.-born people are four times more likely to be incarcerated as foreign-born people.
