Memphis Homicide Clearance Rate Far Above National Average

The Memphis Police Department solved 87 percent of the city’s homicides last year. So far this year, the number is 84 percent, says the Memphis Commercial Appeal. The national clearance rate hovered around 61 percent last year.

Police Maj. Joe Scott, a former homicide investigator, credits that success to the ability to work with the community. “That’s our asset — the community and the way we reach out to them,” he said.
