CBP, a Department of Homeland Security division with nearly 44,000 employees, says it “protects the nation's borders from terrorism, human and drug smuggling, illegal migration and agricultural pests while facilitating the flow of legitimate travel and trade.” CBP is responsible for guarding 7,000 miles of land borders shared with Canada and Mexico and 2,000 miles of coastal waters surrounding Florida and off the coast of Southern California.
