The Dallas Morning News series “Unequal Justice” has been honored by the Online News Association. Reporters Reese Dunklin and Brooks Egerton won an award for their investigative series “Unequal Justice.” The series described revealed serious problems in the Texas criminal justice system that the newspaper said had been ignored for far too long. “The Dallas Morning News entry dug under the surface of conventional wisdom, asked why is this happening and put a face on the problem – what an investigative piece is all about. It was effecting, effective and well produced,” the judges said.
The newspaper reported that Texas murderers were put on probation at least 120 times from 2000 through 2006. The first article in the series can be seen at this site: http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/longterm/stories/111107dnproujday1main.e07b32.html
