Detroit Launches Web Site For Citizens To Check Crime Trends

Detroit residents now can use the Internet to check crime trends in their neighborhoods, reports the Detroit Free Press. The Detroit Police Department launched CrimeView Community this week. Users can use the Web site to search for recent crimes in areas of the city they select. The site — — allows users to select from 23 crimes, including arson, auto theft and armed robbery, and enter an address or school to determine crimes that have been reported nearby. The site generates a map with symbols representing the selected crimes committed in the area.

Police ask users not to make comparisons between different sections of the city based solely on the information provided by the Web site because crime is influenced by a variety of factors.
